Excessive sweating in the armpits can be treated with injections of the protein botulinum toxin into the overactive sweat glands.
The excess nerve signal to the sweat glands is blocked by the protein which reduces significantly the amount of sweat produced. This effect can last for 3 to 6 months after which time it can be repeated. The treatment is not as uncomfortable as it sounds and local anaesthetic cream can be used if you wish.
